Aside from the normal operator applications when a toner cartridge is low or empty, how do you enter a service mode to make it rotate and what is the procedure?HP 4500 Color LaserJet, How do you rotate toner carriage?
You don't need to enter the Service Mode in order to rotate the carousel to the desired color toner that you wish to replace. Instructions are usually included with new toner cartridges.
It's been several months since I've had to work on one and don't remember exactly how it was done. Of course you know how it is and how you remember things when you have a machine in front of you rather than working from memory.
Try this:
1. The printer must be turned on and the top cover must be shut.
2. On the printer control panel, press [Select] to position the empty toner cartridge for replacement.
3. Press [Value[(+)] until the color toner cartridge desired is displayed in the control panel display, wait for the carousel to turn and stop %26amp; then open the access cover.
This is basically covered in the basic Installation Guide:

You can also manually rotate the carousel if it becomes necessary. I could try to describe it, but found it covered along with pictures in the instructions listed on the last page in this document:

Doing it this way can be somewhat tricky as you have to align the cartridge with the guides just right and release the carousel brake/lock to hold it there so that the cartridge can be removed and installed easily. You'll see what I mean if you try it.
